UAE Labour Minister tells UN debate: Reducing cost of Labour mobility across borders will benefit all
New York - May 22, 2011 (WAM) - UAE Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash stated that the reduction of the cost of labour mobility across national borders, either through self-initiatives by governments or through joint cooperative initiatives, represents the most important aspect of the rational management of the cycle of contractual work. He held the view that this will also contribute to maximise the benefits of the various parties concerned in this regard.
The minister was addressing the Informal Thematic Debate on International Migration and Development at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 19 May 2011. In an intervention made by him, the minister said that the most important successes achieved by the International Forum on Migration and Development was its highlighting of the consequences of the high cost incurred by the workers under contract while relocating to new destinations from their home countries. The high cost incurred by the temporary worker has a negative impact on his earnings and the stability of his family; noted the minister. Ghobash added that the UAE has adopted a policy to create an environment where the interests of the workers as well as the employers are equally protected. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
