Azerbaijani President and his spouse attends groundbreaking ceremony for Baku Olympic Stadium

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva have today attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Baku Olympic Stadium, Azerbaijani President’s official website reported.
The event was also attended by UEFA President Michel Platini, FIFA President Joseph S. (Sepp) Blatter, outstanding representatives of the world football community, football veterans and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev said that a new gorgeous stadium will cover a land area of 120,830 square meters and have a capacity of 65,000 spectators. Designed in modern style, the stadium will fulfill FIFA`s and UEFA`s highest technical recommendations and elite stadium obligations for football stadiums. The stadium will be equipped with facilities, such as a race-track, multifunctional stands and so on.
The participants of the ceremony watched a documentary about the history of Azerbaijan football.

President Ilham Aliyev placed a symbolic metal capsule into the ball and laid a foundation of the Baku Olympic Stadium.
