Public invited to review FANR regulations

Abu Dhabi, June 9, 2011 (WAM) - The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) issued two new draft regulations on Wednesday and invited the public to review and comment on them. The Regulation for the System of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Material and Application of Additional Protocol (FANR-REG-10) established a system with which FANR can verify the amount and whereabouts of nuclear material and activities in the UAE. This helps FANR to meet international obligations and commitments under the UAE’s Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Additional Protocol to this Agreement.
The Regulation for the Certification of Operating Personnel at Nuclear Facilities (FANR-REG-17) establishes the training, qualifications and certification requirements for the operating personnel of any nuclear facility in the UAE. The draft regulations can be found at FANR website and comments should be sent to its e-mail address within the next 30 days.
