UAE authorities recover fugitive in connection with charges of corruption, breach of trust

Abu Dhabi, June 13, 2011 (WAM) - The competent authorities in the UAE recovered the accused in the corruption and breach of trust case, who had been wanted by Dubai World Group. The accused was extradited from Thailand on June 7, following an international track down.
According to a statement issued by Abdul Qader Obaid Ali, Chairman of the Department of Internal Audit at Dubai World Group, the case of the accused Michael Brian Smith, " is one of the issues that has exhausted time and effort", indicating that the case was filed against him in 2008, and was found out to have left the country.
The statement pointed out that the group tracked down in collaboration with major companies the accused until they were able to detect his whereabouts in Bangkok, and then submitted a request for a Red Notice against him. He was turned over to the UAE on June 7.
Dubai World Group thanked Dubai Police, the public prosecution in Dubai, Interpol Abu Dhabi
"Department of International Cooperation", the Justice Department in Abu Dhabi, Department of International Cooperation, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE Embassy in Bangkok, the Department of Limitless, a subsidiary of Dubai World Group and Internal Audit Department of Dubai World Group.
