Abu Dhabi Customs discovers frauds on bitumen

Abu Dhabi, June 14, 2011 (WAM) - The Abu Dhabi Customs discovered a number of frauds and forgery of documents by some companies to import bitumen without paying tariffs. The cases involves the forging of customs statements, invoices and freight policies which state unreal quantities of bitumen in order to pay less the real tariff on the imported material. According to the customs law, these violations are considered as smuggling which is punished by a fine of no less than double the original tariff. The value of tariffs recovered by Abu Dhabi Customs in this operation is over Dh2.4 million - Emirates News Agency, WAM
