Hamdan bin Mubarak confirms importance of ports and airports to support national economy
Abu Dhabi, June 21, 2011 (WAM) - Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, President of the Higher Committee of UAE Civil Seaports and Airports Security has confirmed that the vision and guidelines of the UAE's wise leadership have empowered seaports and airports of the country to achieve the highest levels of quality and security and support national economy through their commitment to implement agreements and international laws as well as national requirements.
While presiding over the committee's meeting, Sheikh Hamdan said that seaports and airports are considered the gateway of the state to the outside world, whereas it is the spot where all means of transport in passenger service and international trade start and end as well as being an important source of national income, a supervision centre for oversight on the implementation of export and import laws, trade, international navigation. They are also the mainstay of country's stability and reflect the appearance of the community and the state and they have their global impact through highlighting the achievements of UAE's civilisation.
He agreed to a proposal of creation of an award titled "National Award for Outstanding Seaports and Airports," directing to study and determine the categories and standards.
The meeting adopted a recommendation on Abu Dhabi to host the "Conference of the security of ports and airports" at its second session on the 2nd and 3rd of November, 2011.
The meeting reviewed a report on the training plan implemented by the Committee during the first half of this year, while Sheikh Hamdan praised training programs and policies implemented by the Commission as well as raising the level of human resources that comes in line with the policy of the state in preparation and qualification of human resources for the development and progress of the country.
The meeting also reviewed reports on the survey of maritime security which have been implemented recently in the seaports of the country along with the results of the audit of the ports and airports in the state and methodologies for auditing and inspection accredited by the Committee.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan and members of the committee discussed proposals to promote the process of functioning of the Commission to achieve national interest of the state. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
