Abu Dhabi, June 6, 2011 (WAM) - UAE Minister of Health Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali received a letter from Ferid Agani, Kosovan Health Minister, on behalf of the Kosovan people and government in appreciation of the recent help of the UAE Ministry of Health for the operation of the 25 year old Kosovar patient Sevdie Gashi for the removal of a brain tumour in the pituitary gland.
The letter of the Kosovan Health Minister emphasised that the government and people of the United Arab Emirates have given an outstanding help for the people of Kosovo in the last decades, during some of the most difficult and tragic times.
Agani said: "Your government built one of the best refugee camps in Albania during the Kosova war in 1999, which sheltered thousands of war refugees, provided water, food and medical care for them as well as helped through several programs to cure the war traumas that some of the war refugees endured".
The Kosovan Health Minister stated in his appreciation letter to the UAE Minister of Health that after the liberation of Kosovo, the UAE's peacekeeping troops played a crucial role as part of the KFOR in peace building and maintaining the security of Kosovo. It also built a field hospital in the city of Vushtri with more than 100 beds, which provided help for tens of thousands of Kosovar patients in need of medical care.
He also mentioned that the UAE is one of the first countries of Asia to recognise the independence of Kosovo and the right of its people to have self determination, liberty and freedom.
The Minister of Health in Kosovo, said: "We would like to thank the UAE government and people and the Ministry of Health for their efforts in saving and improving the lives of Kosovan nation. We also look forward to expanding fields of collaboration in healthcare between our nations, in the spirit of goodwill, brotherhood and friendship".
The surgery was done at the neurosurgery department in Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah after a Swedish hospital communicated with Neurosurgery consultant in Al Qasimi Hospital Dr. Mohammed Al Olama, who presented the case to Ministry of Health, which in turn, agreed to do the successful operation free of charges. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
