Renewable energy must for climate change mitigation: Abdullah bin Zayed

Abu Dhabi, July 11, 2011 (WAM) - Dwindling fossil energy resources should trigger a world-wide drive to develop renewable energy technologies as clean energy has become the right option to mitigate impact of the climate change, said Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Abdullah made the statement while addressing a forum on the renewable energy technologies and their impact on the development in the Southern hemisphere, which was held yesterday in the Moroccan city of Asilah as part of its annual cultural festival. Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of international cooperation and coordination in addressing nuclear energy risks, following the Fukushima nuclear plant accident in Japan. Meanwhile, the forum participants agreed that it was necessary to develop renewable energy sectors across the world to meet rising energy demand, citing north-south cooperation as an effective means to achieve that through exchanging expertise and enhancing technology transfer. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
