Sail Ras Al Khaimah takes Silver in the F18 World Championships

July 12, 2011 (WAM) - Lake Balaton in Hungary was the venue for the 2011 F18 Multi Hull World Championships, this year saw a new name on the block, "Sail Ras Al Khaimah", a sailing initiative founded earlier this year at the Royal Yacht Club of Ras Al Khaimah in Al Hamra, by Alan Linnitt of Al Hamra Marina and Royal Yacht Club.
"It is our aim to put Ras Al Khaimah on the map as a sailing destination, we have the best venue in the Middle East when it comes to sailing, we have the infrastructure, the weather, the resources and facilities for all and the capability of holding World Class events like the F18 Worlds" stated Linnitt Two teams competed for Ras Al Khaimah against more than one hundred World Class teams, Conrad Schwindt (UAE), Marja Van Helden (NED) on boat UAE1555 and Mischa Heemskerk (NED) and Bastiaan Tentij (NED) on boat NED007.
Conrad and Marja qualified for the finals and finished in a very respectable 50th position, whilst Mischa and Bastiaan finished 2nd overall, bringing the Silver home to Ras Al Khaimah. 1st place was taken after a gruelling final day by Darren Bundock (AUS) and Jeroen van Leeuwen.
Sail Ras Al Khaimah is a Ras Al Khaimah Tourism supported initiative to bring sailing to persons that would not have the opportunity to sail and compete. The aim is to create a Middle East hub for training and create a true sailing destination. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
