Cabinet of Ministers meeting on socio-economic development in 1st half year conducted under Azerbaijani President's chairmanship

Baku (Trend) - A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the socio-economic development in the first half of 2011 was conducted on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, AzTV state television reported.
President Aliyev made key remarks to the meeting.
The Head of State said that the socio-economic issues facing the country found their solution in the first half of 2011. During this period, the GDP grew by 0.9 percent. President Aliyev said that the figure is less as compared to the past period, which is connected with the reduction in oil production.
The President said that the main goal of the country is to develop non-oil sector and diversify the economy, and non-oil sector growth made up 7.2 percent, agriculture - 6.2 percent in the first six months of this year. Money incomes of population rose by 17 percent.
After the changes made to the Public budget in the first half year, Azerbaijan's budget will reach $20 billion for the first time in the history, said Aliyev. The Head of State said that the strategic monetary reserves of the country during this period grew by $9 billion up to $38 billion. The President believes that this gives the country an opportunity to ensure economic development and provide additional financial resources to address social problems.
Aliyev said currently the country continues to implement the state program of targeted social aid covering 125,000 families.
The number of people living in poverty has decreased by five times over the past seven years. A total of 38,000 new jobs have been opened in the past six months as a result of implementation of the State Program on socio-economic development of regions. The State Program "Youth of Azerbaijan in 2011-2015" and the State Program on socio-economic development of Baku and its settlements in 2011-2013 were adopted this year.
In his speech, President Aliyev also touched upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Reports on the socio-economic development processes in the country in the first half of the year were delivered by Taxes Minister Fazil Mammadov, Communications and Information Technologies Minister - Ali Abbasov, Head of Baku City Executive Power Hajibala Abutalibov, Azersu President Gorkhmaz Huseynov.
