Turkmen law on 'Hydrocarbon Resources' amended

The draft law "Amending the Turkmen law" on "Hydrocarbon Resources" was reviewed and approved at a regular meeting of the Turkmen parliament, which started in Ashgabat.
The report said that this law is aimed at the rational use and preservation of natural resources of the country for future generations.
There is the second largest gas field in the world - South Yoloten-Osman in the east of Turkmenistan, regional manager of Gaffney, Cline & Associates (GCA) Peter Holding said at an international gas congress in the Caspian Avaza in late May.
Holding said that the confirming figures will be announced soon.
In 2008, the company conducted an audit and assessed the approximate reserves of the deposit to the amount of 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, which put it in the fourth place in the world.
After comprehensive operations, Turkmengeology increased the expected reserves of Yoloten to the amount of 21 trillion cubic meters of gas in late October 2010.
More than a thousand prospective oil and gas structures have been discovered onshore and offshore.
More than 150 deposits have been opened and only 50 of them are under development.
The long-term agreements on gas cooperation were signed with Russia, China, Iran. The memorandum on cooperation was signed with the EU in the energy sector.
The gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China has been already built in accordance with interstate agreements. The project of the Caspian main line is being studied. The gas transportation system Central Asia-Center has been reconstructed. The operations are held to implement such projects as the Trans-Afghan and the Trans-Caspian gas pipelines.
