Turkmenistan ratifies UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug.15 / Trend, H. Hasanov /
Turkmen Parliament adopted a resolution "On ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization", the local press reported on Monday.
This international document was adopted by UNESCO in 2003. The list of intangible cultural heritage addresses oral tradition, traditional music, dance, rituals, festivals, and hand-craft.
Characteristic features of objects are visible connections between nature and history, cultural diversity, creativity, and the passage of generational traditions.
The Committee meeting is held every two years, during which special aspects of oral and intangible cultural heritage are evaluated. A number of masterpieces require urgent protection for world heritage and are included on a special list. These objects are treated with special care and financial support.
Endangered languages are protected as part of the program.
UNESCO has developed a criteria for the preservation of languages and issues; an Atlas of endangered languages has also been created, which includes all the languages threatened with extinction.
