Turkmenistan announces amnesty in Ramadan

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug.23 / Trend, H. Hasanov /
Turkmenistan is preparing for an amnesty of "individuals, who committed crimes and sentenced to imprisonment, but sincerely repented of their deeds" in honor of Gadyr Gijesi ("Night of Omnipotence"), the Turkmen government said on Tuesday.
The holy month of Ramadan - fasting time - is underway in the Muslim world.
The report says that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov hearing a report about the upcoming measures of the State Security Council, stressed that "there is a special sense in the fact that pardon action, which has already become a good tradition, is held to mark the sacred "Gadyr Gijesi".
Berdimuhammadov instructed the relevant services to "responsibly approach to this action that meets the spirit of the age-old values of the Turkmen people - mercy, humanity and justice, and take measures so that pardoned peoples could meet Gadyr Gijesi at their homes".
