Integrated vocational sites in northern provinces to be focused

(KPL) The development of integrated vocational schools and teachers for six northern provinces of Laos is being conducted with the aim to produce quality human resource to meet the high demand of labour national and international markets.
Presently, the construction of vocational schools in six northern provinces is underway, namely Phongsaly, Luang Namtha, Oudomsay, Sayaboury, Houaphanh and Xiengkhouang.
The construction of these schools is expected to be completed in 2010.
Issues of the development of vocational schools were discussed by experts of Laos, Germany and Thailand in a meeting held in Xiengkhouang province on 13 September.
The upgrade of teachers for vocational schools was also a key important issue in the meeting.
The meeting drew the attendance of Mr Bounsouk, director of the Cabinet of the Lao Ministry of Education, a senior advisor of the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ) in Laos, and Dr Siraphan Chomnom, Deputy Secretary Committee for Vocational Education of Thailand.
The discussion was followed up the action plan of the Vocational Department of Lao Ministry of Education in cooperation with GTZ in Laos and the Thai Vocational Department in the expansion and improvement of six vocational schools in northernmost provinces.
They discussed action plan for improving and building training of Lao vocational teachers to work in the six schools through training in Thailand.
They also joined in making plan to respond real conditions and appropriated the real condition for socio-economic development and localities.
Mr Bounsouk highlighted four education projects which was approved by the Party and Government are national education reform, expansion of study opportunities, teacher supply and vocational schools expansion countrywide.
He said “The vocational education is an important work of the Party and state that is focusing on the improvement of education infrastructure as integrated vocational education so as to create more opportunities for local young can access to education and get handicrafts and skills”.
Mr Nouphan Ousa, Deputy Head of Vocational Department said that the integrated vocational schools have been established in all provinces considering as completing in basically.
These schools have concentrated on agriculture and in the future will focus on all subprojects of vocational school system and extended opportunities for students who upgraded from school secondary school to extend their study.
