Iran ends air drills

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 15 /Trend T.Konyayeva/
Iran announced the completion of ten-day air drills, IRINN TV reported.
During the "Velayat 3" drills, the Air Forces successfully fulfilled all assigned tasks and planned operations, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Brigadier General Hassan Shah-Safi said.
The IRIAF on Sept. 13 started the main phase of its three-staged air drills with testing hi-tech bombs and other advanced weapons systems, including various air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.
During the first two days of the main phase, various types of domestically-built fighter jets, including Saeqeh, F-4, F-5 and F-7, carried out various practice mission, employing new tactics.
On Thursday, Iran tested domestically-produced anti-radar smart missiles struck and destroyed assumed target of Su-24 plane. The IRIAF also tested firing laser, thermal and TV-guided missiles with various ranges.
The IRIAF's strategic aircraft and equipment were also used in performing night operations in total darkness with silent radios on Wednesday.
An array of fighter jets, fighter bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, F-14, SU-24 fighter-bombers, Mig-29 and the logistic C-130 planes, and Saeqeh home-made fighter jets were used in the drills started in Northwestern Iran on Sept. 6.
The drills seek to simulate real-world scenarios in preparation for defending the nation against any possible foreign attacks against the country.
The "Velayat 3" drills showed that sanctions imposed on Iran by the US and its European allies over the past three decades were futile, Shah-Safi told reporters on Wednesday.
