Azerbaijan's First Lady: Problems of disabled people should not be regarded only from medical point of view

Azerbaijan`s first lady, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, chairwoman of Azerbaijan-France friendship group, MP Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, said problems of the disabled people should not be regarded only from a medical point of view.
"Problems that they face today should be evaluated as a social factor," reads Mrs.Aliyeva’s greeting message addressed to participants of the First International Conference "From Isolation to Integration" in Baku. The event is dedicated to problems of the disabled people.
Executive director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alekperov read out the message.
"I sincerely welcome you- participants of the Baku International Conference "From Isolation to Integration". Today's conference discusses a very complex issue, which is also a priority of social policy in all countries. Disabled peoples’ isolation from the community is caused by many reasons. Limited contact with people, deprivation of opportunities in sports, creativity, and possibility of using their abilities, qualitative education and health care are the main factors that hinder their integration into the society. Because, their formation as a person and further social position are conditioned by their health and physical development," the message reads.
"Our goal is to create opportunities for the development of talent, full realization of their potential, education and health care for everyone, regardless of his/her mental and physical development," Mehriban Aliyeva stressed.
"We should help them integrate into society so that they could feel themselves useful and full citizens, and had unimpeded means in all spheres of life. Successful implementation of these processes depends on both government agencies and the support of international organizations, non-governmental bodies and civil societies, from their common and effective efforts.
From this point of view, I appreciate holding this conference, which enables to discuss the problems in the protection of disabled people, share their successes, ideas and experiences. I believe the conference will play an important role in solving the problems of people that need special care," the message reads.
