Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council presents Emirate's Urban Vision 2030 to Spanish delegation from City of Marbella

Abu Dhabi, Oct 6, 2011 (WAM) - The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) yesterday hosted a Spanish delegation headed by Mrs Angeles Munoz Uriol, Mayor of Marbella, Spain, and member of the Andalusian Parliament. The delegation was received by Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council at the UPC's offices.
The Spanish delegation was presented with key aspects of the unique Abu Dhabi Urban Vision 2030, which reflects a new identity that represents Abu Dhabi Emirate's Plan 2030 Urban Framework. The visit strengthens the ties between the UPC and the Spanish Embassy in the UAE as well as explores opportunities to exchange best practices in urban planning and sustainability.
Under the ambit of the Vision 2030, the UPC briefed the visiting delegation about the key objectives of the Vision which have laid the foundations for the formulation of benchmark master plans as well as key planning initiatives such as the Public Realm Design Manual (PRDM), the Urban Street Design Manual (USDM) and key projects the Council is working on including the National Housing Programme. The delegation was also briefed in detail on the clear assigned objectives of the UPC's sustainability initiative, Estidama, which is being viewed as Abu Dhabi's contribution to the global debate on sustainability.
Commenting on the delegation visit, Al Ahbabi said: "It is indeed a pleasure and an honour for the UPC to host Mrs Angeles Munoz Uriol and esteemed delegates from the City of Marbella as we know the inspirational role the city is playing in the Andalusia region. The delegation visit provided us with an opportunity to share the key elements of the inspirational Vision 2030 which is changing the shape of Abu Dhabi and describe a concrete example with the upcoming implementation phases of urban environments across the Emirate while discussing the current and progressive master planning principles we are both designing to enhance our city's heritage, cultural, social, economic and environmental assets".
The UPC and the City of Marbella are intending to meet again in the coming months to evaluate opportunities to work together and sign future cooperation agreements between both cities on specific projects and initiatives. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
