The Turkmen and Austrian governments signed the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in energy in Ashgabat on Thursday.
The memorandum was signed within Austrian President Heinz Fischer's visit to Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan is one of the most important partners in energy security for Austria and the EU. In particular, the Nabucco project involves the gas supply from the Caspian region and Middle East to the EU countries. This will diversify the sources of supplying raw materials.
Turkmenistan could join this project due to the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline to be constructed in the future. The Austrian delegation includes representatives of the OMV company. It is one of equal partners in the Nabucco Gas Pipeline International - Nabucco project company.
