UAE condemns attack on its embassy in Damascus

Abu Dhabi, Nov 17, 2011 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday condemned the attack on its embassy in Damascus, Syria, and held the Syrian government responsible for the protection of the security of the UAE diplomatic mission in Syria, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs Juma' Al-Junaibi stated. "The UAE condemns the attack on its embassy in Damascus and holds the Syrian government responsible for the protection of the security and the immunity of its diplomatic mission and its members," Al Junaibi said. He stressed that the responsibility of the Syrian government in this regard is based on the international pacts and treaties which govern diplomatic relations among states and mandate full protection of diplomatic missions. "It is clear that the Syrian government failed to take the required measures to guarantee the work of the UAE diplomatic mission in Damascus and to protect the mission's members," the senior official added. "The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs was in continuous contact with its mission in Damascus and followed up on the developments which led to the attack on the embassy," Al-Junaibi concluded. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
