UAE committed to unique humanitarian approach, says Sheikh Hamdan

Abu Dhabi, Dec 29, 2011 (WAM) - H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) on Wednesday reiterated the UAE's commitment to a unique humanitarian approach to alleviating the suffering of people and protecting human dignity. "The international community highly appreciates the humanitarian efforts of the UAE and follows closely its relief operation worldwide", Sheikh Hamdan said in opening remarks at the 8th meeting of heads of red crescent authorities and societies in the Arab Gulf states. He hailed the support extended by His Highness Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The UAE, he added, looks forward to the outcome and recommendations aimed to further promote regional humanitarian work and partnerships. He called on participants to make more efforts to help develop the most underprivileged communities and fend off the dangers of poverty, diseases, endemics, disasters, crises, climate change, the global economic crisis, shortages of food and medicine and water. He added that the meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue and exchanging ideas on major topics. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
