Russia, Turkey say sanctions will not help resolve Iran nuclear issue
TEHRAN, Jan. 28 (MNA) – Turkey and Russia have called for a resumption of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany), saying more sanctions will not help resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made the remarks at a statement issued at the end of a Joint Strategic Planning Group meeting in Moscow on Friday.
They said that Iran’s nuclear issue can be resolved only through diplomatic means and a resumption of talks without preconditions.
The two foreign ministers also emphasized that Iran has the right to develop nuclear energy meant for peaceful purposes on condition that Iran abides by its commitments to the terms of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
