'Iran’s naval fleet able to conduct missions around the world'

TEHRAN, Feb. 14 (MNA) – The commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said that Iranian naval fleet is capable of carrying out missions in every point in open seas, including the Atlantic Ocean. The Navy commander said the Iranian Navy’s 12th fleet of warships has recently experienced its first presence in the Mediterranean Sea after passing through the Suez Canal and moored at the Port of Latakia in Syria. In September 2011, Sayyari said Iran plans to deploy naval vessels in the Atlantic Ocean near maritime borders of the United States. “As the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) have a (military) presence near our sea borders, we also plan to have a strong presence near the U.S. sea borders,” he said at the time.
