Cartoonists of 38 countries take aim at Iran’s World Awakening Awards

TEHRAN,Feb.15(MNA) – Cartoonists from 38 countries have submitted their works to the contest for the World Awakening Awards. The secretary of the event Masud Shojaei-Tabatabaei said that the contest has been welcomed and claimed that the number of participants would rise until the deadline of the festival on February 19. “The works will be judged by a jury panel consisting of Iranian and foreign cartoonists and the cartoons will be judged via internet,” he said. The negotiations are conducted with officials to invite foreign members of jury and the winners to Iran, he added. Iran along with Brazil, China, Indonesia and Turkey are the five countries that lead in international contests and have received awards from them, he added. He said that unlike other countries, the majority of Iranian cartoonists are young artists who combined creativity with Iranian traditions in their artworks. He called the language of cartoon a universal language which is understood by all the people around the world. “Cartoonists cure the social boils with their knives of satire so holding such competitions is very influential,” he said. Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) announced that it has launched international awards, which will be given to artworks on the subject of awakening. The World Awakening Awards are held in the fields of cartoons, poster design and photography and the top winner of each section will receive a grand prize, which includes a golden memento and 10,000-euros in cash. The artworks must focus on one of the following subjects: “Capitalism, Wall Street”, “Uprising of World Nations”, “Islamic Awakening in the Contemporary World”, “Resistance against the Hegemonic System” and “Fighting against Despotism”. Applications should be registered on www.awakening-award.com.
