Iranian director to stage play on Tagore in India

TEHRAN,Feb.19(MNA) -- Iranian director Asghar Khalili will stage a play on the journey of Rabindranath Tagore to Iran in a joint production with Indian artists in New Delhi. Khalili will stage the play named “The Son of Morning” in November 2012. The performance is cosponsored by the Iranian embassy in India and Indian Embassy in Tehran. “The Indian Embassy in Tehran proposed the production of the play and the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi is supporting the play for the performance,” Khalili mentioned in a press release. The play aims to stress the common cultural issues between Iran and India from past times, he said. A part of the rehearsals will be held in Iran but the final rehearsals will be held in India since the play will be staged in that country, he added. He said that 60 sessions of rehearsals are needed for final performances and the Indian artists have already begun their rehearsals, however the main rehearsals will begin in April. He did not mention the names of actors. “Since travel is the main theme of the play, I planned to use portable accessories for the stage,” he said, The play will be performed by the Tajrobeh-No Theater Troupe and Atabak Naderi will play the role of Tagore. He said that he will use two Indian actors. He added that the actors have not been specified yet. Rabindranath Tagore (1861- 1941) was a Bengali polymath who reshaped his region’s literature and music. He became the first non-European Nobel laureate by earning the 1913 Prize in Literature. In translation, his poetry was viewed as spiritual and mercurial; his seemingly mesmeric personality, flowing hair, and other worldly dress earned him a prophet-like reputation in the West.
