IAEA delegation in Tehran for nuclear talks

TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – A high-ranking delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Tehran in the early hours of Monday for nuclear talks. The delegation, headed by Herman Nackaerts, the IAEA deputy director general and the head of the IAEA Department of Safeguards, has come to Tehran to help resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear activities. "We hope to have a couple of good and constructive days in Tehran," Nackaerts said at Vienna airport as the five-member team prepared to depart, according to Reuters. "The highest priority remains of course the possible military dimensions of Iran’s nuclear program," he told reporters. Nackaerts also expressed hope that the two-day visit would yield ‘real results,’ but did not comment further. On January 31, the IAEA delegation had paid a three-day visit to Tehran and held talks with high-ranking Iranian officials in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Speaking to reporters on February 5, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the IAEA delegation’s trip to Tehran had nothing to do with a possible resumption of talks between Tehran and the major powers. However, he said that the first step toward settling the disagreements was taken during their trip.
