Qualifications of over 3,400 parliament hopefuls approved

TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced the final result of the vetting of candidates on Tuesday, saying the Guardian Council has approved the qualifications of more than 3,400 parliament candidates. The election will be held on March 2. 470 candidates out of 5,164, who had registered for the parliamentary election, opted out of the election, and the qualifications of more than 3,400 candidates were approved by the Guardian Council, Mohammad-Najjar told reporters. The final result of the vetting will be sent to governors’ offices, he said, adding that the campaigning officially starts on Thursday, February 23, at 8:00 A.M. and closes on Thursday, March 1, at 8:00 A.M. He also said that electronic election will be conducted at 1,395 polling stations out of 47,665 across the country. According to statistics, 48,288,799 people are eligible to vote this year.
