Georgian parliament to discuss new cyber security legislation

Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb.23 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /
On Thursday, the Georgian parliament will consider a legislative initiative on cyber security.
As majority party member Chiora Taktakishvili said, a meeting will be held at parliament between the authors of the bill, non-governmental organisations and representatives of those organisations directly affected by the new regulations.
Ms Taktakishvili called the new law 'On Information Security' very important. She said cyber-attacks committed in Georgia during August 2008 showed the necessity to adopt appropriate regulations.
Under the bill, the new regulations will affect both the public and private sectors. A term 'subject of critical infrastructure' is being introduced for identification of such people. A relevant subject will be any state or legal body and the operation of information systems which are important for national defence, economic security, preservation of the government and public life.
