Drama on world uprisings makes audience move at Tehran theater
TEHRAN,Feb.23(MNA) -- Unlike a traditional theater performance, the audience must move with the actors through a series of scenes to watch a play, which is currently on stage at a Tehran theater.
“The Song of the Returnees”, which is about the uprisings that hit Wall Street and some countries in the Middle East over the past year, premiered at the Enqelab Cultural Center on Tuesday.
The audience watches a scene from the performance on the stage, but they then move to the other side of the stage to continue watching the play. Sometimes the actors are among the audience.
The Peace Theater Troupe, comprised of 23 actors including Zahra Shayanfar, Mohammad Kangarani, Hanieh Musavi and Kamal Asghari, is performing the play directed by Kambiz Asadi until March 7. Habib Danesh has written the play.
Asadi’s troupe has previously staged “I Even Dance with the Dead”, which was about the last two days of Latin American revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara’s life.
They have also performed Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s poetic drama “Faust”, Samuel Beckett’s “Endgame”, “Not I” and “Come and Go”, and several other plays.
