Iran`s “Women Only” scoops up awards at Sun Smile Celebration

TEHRAN,Feb.27(MNA) -- “Women Only” won several awards at the Sun Smile Celebration, a festival that is annually held to honor comedies and comic actors in the Iranian cinema and television. The winners were announced during a ceremony held at the Andisheh Hall on Saturday evening. “Women Only” was selected as the Best Comic Film of the celebration. It was also awarded with the Best Film Scrip Award and the Best Actor Award for Reza Attaran’s role in the film. The director of “Women Only”, Rambod Javan, went on stage to receive the film’s award saying that he owed this prize to the members of his cast and crew. Peyman Qasemkhani won the Best Film Script Award for “Women Only” and “Saint Petersburg”. “Although we always receive our awards from welcoming audiences, such prizes are also heartwarming,” Qasemkhani mentioned while he received his award. Abdolreza Kahani won the Best Director Award for his films “Nothing” and “Absolutely Tame Is a Horse”. He bestowed his prize to his wife Shima Monfared who was the editor of his films including “Nothing”. The jury members also honored deceased comedian Mohammad Varshochi who won the prize during the previous edition of the celebration. The Best TV Series Award went to the popular TV series “The Physicians’ Building” directed by Sorush Sehhat. Sehhat expressed his happiness over receiving the award saying that he began his career with Mehran Modiri, the renowned Iranian actor and director known for his comic TV series, and it is an honor for him to have been nominated for this prize along with him. Reza Attaran received the Best Actor Award for his roles in “Women Only” and “Absolutely Tame Is a Horse”. “Laughing is a collective need since it is a precious phenomenon. I am ready to do anything to make people laugh,” Attaran mentioned. Bahareh Rahnama won the Best Actress Award for her roles in “Women Only”, “Pupak and Mash Mashallah” and “Saint Petersburg”. The Sun Smile Celebration has been organized by the Nasl-e Aftab Artistic Sport Institute, an NGO established by renowned sportsmen and artists. Wrestler Amir-Reza Khadem, football players Ali Daei and Karim Baqeri, actors Alireza Khamseh, Reza Kianian and Mohammadreza Forutan, actress and director Niki Karimi and the basketball player Samad Nikkhah-Bahrami are among the members of the NGO.
