Algerian handicrafts on display in Tehran

TEHRAN,Feb.28(MNA) -- The Niavaran Cultural Historical Complex is playing host to a festival of handicrafts from Algeria. Algeria’s Handicrafts Festival, featuring a wide range of beautiful handicrafts, opened Sunday evening in the presence of Iranian and foreign officials. Traditional costumes, jewelry, hand-woven carpets, and earthenware have been put on display in different pavilions across the complex, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Monday. Algerian Ambassador to Tehran Soufiane Mimouni and Mohammadreza Rashid Kordestani, the director of Handicrafts Department of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) took part in the opening ceremony. A traditional band from Algeria also performed several pieces selected from Andalusian classical music. In addition, traditional food and cookies are also being offered at the tents set up across the courtyard of the complex. The festival will be running until March 3. Iran’s handicrafts festival is due to be held in Algeria in summer 2012.
