‘Tehran handicraft exhibit provides a reflection of Algerian national identity’

TEHRAN,March 3(MNA) -- The curator of the Algerian Handicrafts Festival, which is currently underway in Tehran, said that the festival attempts to provide a reflection of the culture and identity of the country. This exhibition introduces the national identity of a country to other cultures and civilizations, and boosts ties with other countries, Ibrahim Gharbi told on Friday. The exhibition opened in Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Historical Complex last week and comes to an end this evening. This is the first time that he has travelled to Iran and they have tried to introduce a sample of Algerian handicrafts that represent their culture and civilization, Gharbi said. “I asked Iranian officials to introduce Persian handicrafts by holding workshops and classes during our sojourn in Iran,” he added. Traditional costumes, jewelry, hand-woven carpets, and earthenware have been put on display in different pavilions across the complex. A traditional band from Algeria also performed several pieces selected from Andalusian classical music. In addition, traditional food and cookies are also being offered at the tents set up across the courtyard of the complex.
