Iran doubles electricity export to Pakistan
TEHRAN,March 4(MNA)--Iran has doubled its electricity exports to neighboring Pakistan to help Islamabad overcome its power shortage, Press TV reported.
Iran’s power supply to the Makran region of Pakistan increased from 35 MW per day to 70MW on February 26, 2012 after transmission lines were enhanced.
The electricity supply is transmitted through newly inaugurated power lines which provide power for the Makran division.
A spokesman for Pakistan’s Ministry of Water and Power told reporters on Wednesday that the daily 70 MW supply will meet the electricity demand of the Makran division for the next five years.
Iran is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Nakhichevan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
Iran's total power generation capacity stands at 63,403 MW while the total length of the power grid exceeds 780,000 km.
