Iranian director to realize “A Midsummer Dream” in London
TEHRAN,March 10(MNA) -- Iranian director Hamid Purazari left Tehran for London on Thursday in order to stage “A Midsummer Dream” at the London International Festival of Theater (LIFT).
Five members of the Papatiha Theater Troupe are accompanying Purazari on the trip and they will perform the play with other actors from London’s Farsi speaking community and other immigrant residents in the city.
Mohammadreza Vafajuii and Nashimeh Noruzi have written “A Midsummer Dream” based on Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, which portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.
“We have commissioned Iranian theater director Hamid Purazari to come to the UK and work with people from London’s Farsi speaking community,” LIFT organizers announced on the festival’s website.
“In the beginning, our group will hold workshops for the people and afterwards members of the cast will be selected from among them,” Purazari told .
The LIFT will take place from June 12 to July 15, 2012.
He staged Brecht’s “Caucasian Chalk Circle” performed with a cast of 85 Afghan refugees in Tehran.
He also used Afghan teenage refugees to perform “Hosseinqoli, a Man Who Had No Lips” at a Tehran theater in 2008.
