Iran will continue supporting Syria: Iranian deputy FM

TEHRAN,March 13(MNA) – The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said that the Islamic Republic will continue giving its full support to the Syrian government and people. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in an interview on Monday in response to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu who has reportedly said that Iran and Russia have decreased their support for the Syrian government compared with last year. The Iranian diplomat said that in light of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s proposed reform plan, the Syrian people will take firm steps on the path of the full implementation of reforms and will oppose foreign intervention. He added that the Islamic Republic will advocate a political solution to the Syrian issue and will support the Syrian people’s demands, to which the Syrian president has paid due attention. Amir-Abdollahian also advised the international and regional sides that are meddling in Syria’s internal affairs to avoid taking hasty measures and supporting armed opposition groups in Syria, saying that Iran holds the countries which are causing instability and insecurity in the Arab country responsible for the intensification of the crisis.
