Iran marks Islamic Republic Day

TEHRAN, April 2 (MNA)--Iranians commemorated the Islamic Republic Day across the country on March 31. In a two-day nationwide referendum held on March 30 and 31 in 1979 and just a few months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, 98.2 percent of Iranians favored the change of the monarchial system. As a result, on April 1, 1979, Iran was declared an Islamic Republic and was given a new official name - the Islamic Republic of Iran.
