Emirati women complete internships at NASA

Abu Dhabi, July 3, 2012 (WAM) - Three Emirati women have successfully completed an engineering internship at NASA (United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration) accoriding to a report in "Gulf News." The women, whose internship was facilitated by the Arab Youth Venture Foundation (AYVF), conducted mission-based research at NASA, including work on Mars exploration rovers, water-based absorption impacting to space suit design, and waste-water treatment. Maryam Yammahi, a chemical engineering student and the first NASA intern from Fujairah, said the experience was very valuable. During her internship, she looked into solid waste processing methods for space shuttle missions. To date, 16 Emiratis have pursued internships at NASA, the AYVF announced in a statement sent yesterday. Half of the interns have already entered the UAE workforce, while others are pursuing master’s programmes abroad or continuing their education at UAE-based universities. – Gulf News
