UAE pledges to work for world peace

Abu Dhabi, Sept 2, 2012 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates said on Friday that it looks forward to seeing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) contribute to the quest for peace with the rest of the international family. The UAE expressed its readiness to participate in any work for a lasting peace which will achieve an end to the political crises and social unrest that prevail in the Middle East and other parts of the world. Addressing the NAM summit under way in Teheran, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, said that peace, security and stability would not be achieved in the region without abiding by the sublime principles the NAM had proclaimed since its establishment — the principles of respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs, good-neighbourliness and willingness to find just solutions to issues of occupation. Among its priorities was the resolve to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories since 1976, including East Jerusalem, and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the principles of the June 1967 borders, Sheikh Saud noted. He stressed the UAE’s commitment and adherence to the founding principles of the movement. Opening his speech, Sheikh Saud conveyed to the summit greetings from the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his best wishes for success of the summit. Sheikh Khalifa later received a phone call from Sheikh Saud on the outcome of the summit. In a statement shortly before leaving for home, Sheikh Saud said if sincere and constructive cooperation was developed among the member states, it would bring them great gains, providing security and progress in various fields. Sheikh Saud said the NAM countries have what it takes to solve many of the problems experienced by the region. He said that if the NAM principles were respected and applied by everyone, it will contribute to consolidation of relations among the member countries to resolve all pending issues and disputes. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
