Information Minister: Media sector will witness major development

Manama, Apr. 20 (BNA): Bahrain's media and telecommunication sector will witness a major boom of openness as well as professional and legislative development, Information Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi stressed. He was speaking as he took part in the opening of the first monthly discussion session "Al-Majlis" which was organised by Capital Club Bahrain at Bahrain Financial Harbour with the participation of a number of decision-makers in the media, economic and trade fields. The aim, he said, is to keep abreast of cutting-edge technology and cope with the development march brought about by the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He added that success in upgrading the media sector in Bahrain depends mainly on preparing a new and developed media law to further boost responsible freedom and independence of mass media while giving the private sector a bigger role in this respect. The Information Minister pointed out keenness on grooming the media competencies by providing them with the needed training so as to click on their creativity potentials in highlighting the achievements made in the prosperous era of HM the King. Director General of Capital Club Bahrain Dina Haikal thanked the Information Minister for attending the discussion session as a guest of honour and his support to the club, pointing out her keenness to promote the club's role as a pioneering forum for intellectuals and experts. She noted that the second session would be held next month with the participation of a host of senior executive officials from the public and private sectors.
