JANAKUASA OFFERS US$515,000 CONSULTANCY CONTRACT TO VIET FIRM

HANOI, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- Janakuasa Sdn Bhd (Janakuasa), the sole Malaysian
company to undertake a power plant project in Vietnam, Wednesday offered a
RM1.8 million (US$515,000) consultancy service contract to a Vietnamese company.

The signing ceremony between Janakuasa and Power Engineering Consulting
Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) was held at a hotel here.

Janakuasa was represented by President and Chief Executive Officer Ti Chee
Liang while PECC2 by Chief Executive Officer Truong Khac Len.

The Upper House of Parliament President Dr Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, who was
instrumental in bringing Janakuasa into Vietnam, witnessed the signing.

Under the contract, PECC2 will conduct a feasibility study for the power
project and prepare agreement documents for investing and operations
licensing from the Vietnam government.

The Subang Jaya-based Janakuasa, an independent power producer, said
yesterday it had clinched a US$1.5 billion power plant project called "Duyen Hai
2" at Tra Vinh province in south Vietnam.

Duyen Hai 2 is among projects listed in the Sixth Power Facility
Development Master Plan to boost power capacity in the 86 million population
former communist nation.

Chee Liang said PECC2 was appoined a project consultant based on its status
as among the top consultancy agencies in the Indo-Chinese country for power
plant projects.

Janakuasa will be the first Malaysian company to undertake a massive power
plant project in Vietnam, a mega project in the country.

The 1,200MW coal-powered power plant will start construction in 2011 and
slated for completion in 2015.

Chee Liang said the coal will be sourced from Indonesia due to limited
supply from Vietnam.

Truong said PECC2 will start its job as project consultant Thursday.

"We will be in Tra Vinh province Thursday to view the project site," he said
through an interpreter.

Dr Abdul Hamid said he met Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung three
times in two years to discuss the power plant project.

At that time, he was chairman of the Tenaga Technology Perlis Consortium Sdn
Bhd, an independent power proudcer in Perlis, whose majority stakes are held by
Janakuasa.

On Tuesday night, Dr Abdul Hamid met Tan Dung at the government guesthouse
here.
Earlier, he called on Trade and Industry Minister Vu Huy Hoang.
