Al Qubaisi visits UN Office in Vienna and reviews UAE efforts to combat crime, terrorism and extremism

VIENNA, 25th April, 2016 (WAM) -- Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council, FNC, has visited the United Nations Office in Vienna and reviewed the efforts of the UAE in the fight against crime, terrorism and extremism.
Al Qubaisi stressed the importance of the role played by the United Nations Office in the global fight against organised crime and drugs, and praised the close cooperation between the UAE and the office in order to fight organised crime in all its forms and manifestations.
Dr. Al Qubaisi made the remarks when she met with UN diplomats and officials at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, including the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, during her official visit at the head of a high-level parliamentary delegation to Austria and Belgium.
She said that the UAE always confirms the importance of cooperation between countries in order to strengthen security coordination to deal with terrorist groups through the adoption of comprehensive security measures to renounce terrorism and extremism.
Dr. Al Qubaisi called for building an international partnership to combat terrorism, which relies on maximum levels of cooperation and coordination between countries and further development of joint efforts and action to protect national borders and assist states in preserving security and stability.
The Speaker of the FNC praised the training, coordinating and legislative role of the United Nations Office at a global level in the fight against drugs and organised crime, terrorism and corruption, as well as helping states in supporting efforts to curb these crimes.
She stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Federal National Council, FNC, and UNODC, and the coordination of efforts, development of expertise and knowledge, and the policies and legislation that promotes development goals and supports UN programmes.
