Scholarship program to be implemented with non-refundable aid from Japan

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) will continue in Mongolia with non-refundable aid of JPY 555 million or MNT 9.9 billion from the Japanese government. An intergovernmental note of exchange on the project realization was signed Tuesday by L.Purevsuren, the Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Takenori Shimizu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia. In accordance with the document, 22 Mongolians will be involved in the program this year, 18 of whom must be young public servants. Two persons will be selected from the private sector and other two will study for PhD degrees. Launched by the Government of Japan in 1999, the JDS aims to support human resource development of countries that transferred to the market economy. As of present, this program has been implemented in 12 countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Laos, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Vietnam and Ghana. Since 2001 when Mongolia was involved in it, 262 public servants have studied in Japan. The JDS will be implemented in Mongolia for seven years in two phases.
