UAE, Iraq discuss joint trade cooperation

Dubai, February 4, 2009 (WAM) - Trade exchange between the UAE and Iraq is growing but under aspirations of economic circles in the two countries, a UAE official said yesterday.

''Non-oil trade between the two countries reached Dh 11 billion in 2007, a figure that didn't measure up to expectations in light of the distinguished bilateral ties and available huge investment and business opportunities, said Shaheen Ali Shaheen, Assistant Secretary General of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, during talks with a visiting Iraqi trade delegation led by Chairman of Development and Investment Federation Abdul Karim Qasim.

Over the last three years, he noted, trade exchange saw marked increase reflecting the tireless efforts made by the public and private circles to leverage economic and trade cooperation.

He invited Iraqi commercial and industrial firms to enter into joint ventures with their UAE counterparts.
