UAE hails Bangladesh's education system
Geneva, February 4, 2009 (WAM) - Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the UN's European Headquarters, commended today efforts Bangladesh has taken to provide legislative frameworks to protect human rights.
Speaking during the 4th session of Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review Working Group, the UAE envoy also praised the educational policy adopted in the Asian country out of its belief in education as a well-established right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
He spelled out Bangladesh's efforts to guarantee the right of education as a key instrument of development and progress as well as realisation of stability and welfare.
He said education accounts for 15 per cent of the state budget, an indicator of how Bangladesh is conscious of the importance of education.
