Malaysian Timber Council To Focus On Fast Expanding And Emerging Segments
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) is focusing its efforts on engaging with not only developed markets, but also fast-expanding and emerging segments as India and China.
"In fact, we will be opening a new regional office in India to serve as a focal point for potential business-matching missions in the country and the Indian sub-continent," said Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdul Rahim Nik.
He said in a statement that in this regard, the Marketing Seminar 2017 is one of the many initiatives being undertaken by the MTC to strengthen Malaysia's presence on the global timber stage.
The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities has targeted export growth of between five and eight per cent this year and the seminar will help spur momentum towards achieving it.
The one-day seminar on April 18 is also aimed at exposing industry members to the latest market data and insights towards helping them capitalise on the global opportunities available.
Themed, "Global Timber market Outlook and Export Opportunities for Malaysian Timber Products and Furniture", it also serves as a platform for industry members to share ideas and experiences from the various markets they operate in.
Abdul Rahim said it is crucial to continuously engage with the wider network and keep abreast of market changes, challenges and opportunities within the industry.
"As the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities is looking at export growth of between five and eight per cent this year, this marketing seminar is an excellent initiative that connects industry players to help them make better informed decisions towards meeting a unified objective for the industry," he said in a statement.
MTC will also be hosting a clinic session the day after the marketing seminar.
The session will provide local timber industry members the chance to participate in one-on-one consultation with the invited international speakers.
Six international industry speakers, from China, India, Europe, South Africa, the Philippines and the United States, who were selected from both traditional and emerging timber markets, will navigate through the latest market updates as well as trends in their countries.
