ADTA sees more flow of Italian tourists
Abu Dhabi, February 5, 2009 (WAM) - The opening of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) offices in Rome and Milan is expected to boost the number of tourist arrivals from Italy, said a top tourism official according to a report in “Khaleej Times.”
“The opening of these offices sends a clear signal to the international tourism industry that Abu Dhabi is maintaining its long-term vision of attracting 2.7 million hotel guests to the emirate by 2012,” said ADTA Chairman Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan.
“Through our new offices in Italy, we hope to build greater awareness of Abu Dhabi as a destination of distinction. Our message will be disseminated in a number of ways and our plans include participation in two major trade shows in Italy this year,” he stated.
On Wednesday, a 50-member Italian delegation, led by Tourism Minister Michela Brambilla, arrived in Abu Dhabi to mark the event.
Italy is the sixth country on ADTA’s network. The ADTA has offices in United Kingdom, Germany, France, China and Australia. Brambilla said, “To be honest, we are here to not only see the charming places of the UAE, but also learn how modern development can be the answer to such tourism achievements.”
The tourism and cultural relations between Abu Dhabi and Italy are expanding, said Sheikh Sultan.
Recently, both Abu Dhabi and Dubai announced the setting up of two cultural pavilions at this summer’s Biennale in Venice. By March, Etihad Airways will increase its services to Milan from three to five flights a week, he added. On the other hand, Italy will be well represented at next month’s inaugural Abu Dhabi Yacht Show.
