Mansour bin Zayed receives Medal of Honour from ICA
Abu Dhabi, February 5, 2009 (WAM) - The International Council on Archives (ICA) awarded Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the National Centre for Documentation and Research HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan its Medal of Honour in recognition of his support to the world archives movement as well as in gratitude for hosting the headquarters of ICA in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Mansour received the medal from President of International Council on Archives Dr. Ian Wilson at a reception attended by the ICA Board members, who expressed their profound appreciation for the support given by Sheikh Mansour to the Council.
The senior official of ICA said that the decision to host the Council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi is not only an evidence of the emirate's rich capabilities, but also is an expression of the attention and care Abu Dhabi gives to archiving both on the official and academic levels.
Wilson underlined the importance of archiving, and classification of documents on scientific and technological basis.
Wilson also hailed the efforts of Sheikh Mansour for developing the National Centre For Documentation and Research (NCDR) into an institution, which stands on par with the deep-rooted archives in the world.
He also underlined the importance of international cooperation in the field of archiving and documentation as it enhances joint understanding of many of the human issues.
Sheikh Mansour thanked the ICA for the medal and said that he doesn't consider it as recognition for him, but rather recognition for the UAE and for the steps it had taken for preserving the documents and classifying and archiving them.
"The country's attention to this aspect had started long before, and it developed in pace with the country's development, which was lead by late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The departed founder of the nation used to say always that the one who has no past, has no present and no future. The care and attention given to national archives continued, thanks to the keenness of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his limitless support to NCDR, as he considered it the memoire of a nation and the record of its march into development and prosperity." Sheikh Mansour noted.
He also hailed the continuous follow up from General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces in this regard as he closely monitored every phase of NCDR's development.
Sheikh Mansour praised the role played by Dr. Wilson, the ICA and its Board members in bolstering international cooperation in the field of archiving and documentation.
