Sharjah Police seizes heroin, busts bootleggers

Sharjah, February 9, 2009 (WAM) - Sharjah Police yesterday said it arrested a three-member drug dealing family and seized 1 kg of heroin and 290 grams of opium.

Acting upon a tip-off, and following a lengthy and close observation, the Anti-Narcotics Section at the Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) caught one of the three drug dealers, a 17-year teen, red-handed while attempting to sell drugs using in his car. The boy's father, who too was without any identification documents, and his cousin, an Iranian, were later arrested by the police.

Like father like son. And according to Head of CID Col. Abdul Qader Al Amri, the operation reveals a new kind of crimes where a father is aware that his own son is involved in such criminal act.

Meanwhile, another sting operation by CID teams led to the seizure of a truck loaded with illegal liquor worth US$100000.

A number of Indian bootleggers, who were arrested at a workshop in Sharjah Industrial Area where they suspiciously parked the truck, had skilfully buried 314 bottles of liquor in invisible pockets attached to the body of the truck which served clients in different areas.

The bottles were wrapped in cloth so that they would not be broken.
