RCA delegation arrives in Sudan

Khartoum, February 10, 2009 (WAM) - A delegation from the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), headed by its Board Chairman H.E. Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, arrived in Khartoum yesterday as part of the ongoing efforts to improve living conditions in some areas of Darfur and South Sudan.

The delegation members were received at the airport by Dr Mustafa Othman Ismail, Sudanese Presidential Advisor, Isa Al Basha Al Nuaimi, UAE Ambassador to Khartoum, and a number of senior officials.

Dr Ismail praised the spirit of humanitarian solidarity and efforts made by the UAE under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He also commended the unlimited support given by General/ H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the RCA.

Dr Al Kaabi said the delegation's visit came as part of the endeavours to upgrade levels of cooperation and coordination in humanitarian services to cater for different segments in Sudan.

He revealed that the RCA, under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had started to assess the situation in Darfur and Juba to design a future humanitarian programme in aid of the needy people there.

A planeload of medical aid materials will leave for Juba on Wednesday to help improve the healthcare services there.
