Iraqi Minister offers exchange of documents with UAE's CDR

Abu Dhabi, February 10, 2009 (WAM) - Iraq's Minister of Culture Dr. Maher Al Hadithi expressed his country's wish to set up cooperation with the national Centre for Documentation and Research (CDR), paving way for exchange of documents and training of Iraqi archiving experts.

The Iraqi minister paid a visit yesterday to the Abu Dhabi based CDR, where he was received by the Director of the Centre Dr. Abdullah Al Rees.

Touring various sections of the centre, Al Hadithi hailed the enormous role played by it in archiving and documenting the regions history. He also hailed the support extended by CDR to various Iraqi cultural institutions.

Dr. Rees asserted the willingness of CDR to cooperate with Iraqi institutions in the field of archiving and documenting the past and exchange of expertise as well as transfer of technology.

Dr. Rees recalled the major role he had played earlier in helping to return a large number of valuable documents Iraq had lost. This was done while heading a committee instituted by International Council on Archives (ICA) to rebuild the archives and Libraries in Iraq.
