New design of WAM website inaugurated

Abu Dhabi, February 10, 2009 (WAM) - The new design of WAM's home on the web has been inaugurated yesterday by Saqr Ghobash, Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC) and Minister of Labour.

In remarks at the launch, Ghobash underscored the role WAM is playing to deliver round-the-clock authentic news coverage of the UAE's achievements.

Keeping pace with the latest technologies is part of NMC's efforts for a non-stop upgrade at all level to provide WAM's clients and its website browsers with the best services, he remarked.

He further underscored continuous follow-up on work to integrate lessons learnt from experiences, advantages and disadvantages into the process of development.

The new design for WAM's website rolled out the latest digital media technologies to enable users to browse a vast database of news stories on mobile phones or personal machines.

The new easy-to-use design also offers easy navigation and fast access to digital videos, feeds, photos and other information.

Since it went online this week, the new site received a record number of visitors. The number is expected to jump to half a million during February reflecting the digital media fast-paced development of WAM's services and news coverage.

Following the integration of a dynamic FTP user-friendly file transfer system, WAM has become the region's first news agency to immediately deliver news to clients in all media and all formats therefore supplying a steady stream of news.

WAM receives news feeds from 30 Gulf, Arab and international news agencies via satellite and has signed agreements on cooperation and news exchange with 25 Arab, Asian and international news agencies to further promote media cooperation between the UAE and the world.
